What I hope to learn and how it is connected to what I do.

My goal is to learn about how to integrate technology into my daily life and also into my classrooms. I  would like to learn more about web 2.0 tools, communication outlets, and other resources that I may not be aware of yet. I am hoping to utilize these new tools and resources to expand my personal experiences and help simplify my life.

I also hope to use these tools and resources within my classroom. I am currently a high school science teacher and I have used tools such as: wikis, moodle, voicethread, glogster, smartboard, smart response, and notebook. I actually took the time last year to research and setup my own interactive whiteboard using a nintendo wiimote and an infrared pen (wiimote interactive whiteboard). I am excited to learn about new tools and methods to increase student interaction and productivity through the use of technology.

  1. I can't believe that you use wiimote to get an interactive whiteboard! Was this an expensive thing? Our library just bought a Mimio, and I like it a lot better than the SmartBoard. You are another dedicated teacher - going above and beyond to help your students get the best education possible. Nice job!

  2. I am going to have to look at that Wiimote for future use. I have used a smart board and it was too limited for me to continue to use. The size limitations did not allow my whole class see things. So, I went out built an 8'x8' white board and use the projector that is assigned to my classroom. My class is able to use interactive websites to see virtual dissections as well as using some You tube videos that focus students on the methods of science. One of my favorite Youtube videos is the following about the Scientific Method : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKFanG5s01M I hope you enjoy it.

  3. I definitely recommend checking out the wiimote project. You can get it set up for under $100 and if you utilize the notebook software you will have all the features of the smartboard with a fraction of the cost. Check out some of the links to learn more.

  4. That's a inventive way to get a smart board - well done. Technology lets us morph one tool into another. It really is about changing our mindset from how we have done things to how we might do things.
